Suitable for all dentists with interest in broadening the knowledge of
dental implants from treatment planning, surgical therapy to restorative
princples.
The Program
The training program consist of 5 full-day sessions. This program is ideal for clinicians with minimal exposure to
implant dentistry, and with strong interest in all aspects of implant dentistry including surgical placement,
interdisciplinary treatment planning, and complex restorative and laboratory management. The first 4 sessions will be
devoted to didactic learning and hands-on exercises, and the last session will be full day of live-surgery, where participants may place implants in their own patient.*
This is a unique course taught by a practicing periodontist, Dr. Jin Y. Kim, who had been a general dentist for more than
9 years, and with extraordinary passion for implant dentistry. He is dual board-certified and the current president of
Western Society of Periodontology (WSP). He has lectured in more than 19 countries across the globe, and has been
moderating comprehensive training programs in implant dentistry and clinical periodontics for over 12 years through
the West Coast Center for Advanced Dental Studies. Faculty for this program includes Dr. Thomas K. Lee, a prosthodontist, and Mr. Mark Tillman, a certified laboratory technician.

• Treatment planning concepts and the interdisciplinary thought process
• Regional anatomy, physiology of bone, biomechanical & biomaterial aspects
• Diagnostic tools, radiographs, 3D-CBCT scans
Session 2 - Sunday, November 20, 2011
• Surgical procedures in implant dentistry
• The concept of site preparation, GBR and soft tissue handling techniques
• Pharmacology, surgical patient management, anesthesia
• Principles of practice management, marketing and role of team members
• Overview of medico-legal issues and review of informed consent documentation
Session 3 - Sunday, December 4, 2011
• Regenerative materials and techniques
• Management of complications and failures
• Peri-implantitis, recognition and management
• Surgical instruments, equipment and auxilliary utilization
• Hands-on session on flap, incision design, osteotomy, implant placement, suturing, instrumentation
Session 4 - Monday, March 21, 2011
• Restorative options in implant dentistry
• Special Lecture by Dr. Thomas K.Lee
• Concept of occlusion in dental implants
• The role of dental laboratory support and clinical communications
• Post-restorative follow up protocols and responsibilities of the team
• Hands-on session - impression, abutment selection & restorative components
Session 5 - Monday, March 28, 2011
• Surgery day (at Dr. Kim's private practice)
Units: Total of 30 CEU
Tuition: $2,950
Bring your own patient, treatment plan the case
and perform surgery. Implants, materials, sedation, and assistants will
be supplied by the program.
